Six Foot Four strums Five Foot Two

Posted by: Scott    Tags:  ukulele    Posted date:  March 28, 2012  |  6 Comments

Those of you who come here for the comics and the science fiction and the old timey magazine and newspaper articles have probably been thinking lately, what’s all this with the ukulele? Well, I’ve fallen in love, so there’ll be uke neep now and then, but this will be the last for a bit, especially since I’m heading off to this year’s World Horror Convention later today, so expect chattering about the goings-on in Salt Lake City for the next week instead.

But one last ukulele video before I go, just to show how far my strumming has gotten in four months and a day of owning a ukulele. Still trying to figure out how to sing decently while strumming and fretting at the same time, but I’m sure that will come.

And now … no more ukulele videos until I post something on April 25 to see how far I’ve gotten in five months!

(But you’re not going to hold me to that, are you?)

Brilliant! You’re fast! I found you via Google plus and It looks like we both started playing at around the same time. I’m definitely holding you to 25th April 🙂

At the moment, I’m thinking I’ll be performing George Formby’s “When I’m Cleaning Windows” tomorrow to celebrate five months … but we’ll see.

What sort of music are YOU focussing on?

Paula

I think focus may be the wrong word 🙂 but I’m doing a passable Ukulele Anthem (mainly because its got the line ‘play your ukulele badly’ pretty early on and gives the ‘audience’ some idea of my ukulele style!).
I have three more in my repertoire, Make You Feel My Love (Dylan/Adele), Summertime and Tonight You Belong To Me.
I’ve ‘performed’ twice in the last week at a small family gathering and again for my elderly Mum. My husband said I was marginally better on the occasion when I’d had a couple of drinks! I’m really not very good but I make up for it with enthusiasm!
I’m in the UK and was initially averse to anything to do with George Formby until I watched Frank Skinner’s documentary, now I’m a fan – I hadn’t realised he was such a wonderful player. Cleaning Windows is my next one!

So have you dared to toss a video of yourself up on YouTube yet? And where did you find the chords for “Ukulele Anthem”? That’s the song that sort of pushed me over the edge and made me commit to buying a uke.

Sorry, got busy with non-uke stuff. It happens, eh? No, haven’t been brave enough to make a video of me playing but…I’m currently almost finished a university course ‘Digital Film School’ where an assignment called for a video tutorial. I really didn’t play this for laughs – just how it worked out. How not to make a video tutorial – restringing a ukulele!

How’s your playing going?

I found the chords to the Anthem at Ukulele Hunt – here’s a link

I struggled with some of the tabs, they didn’t sound quite right to me so the version I play is slightly different.

Enjoy!

    Thanks!
