Which is why when I discovered that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypl.org\/\">New York Public Library<\/a> maintains <a href=\"http:\/\/menus.nypl.org\/menus\"> a database of restaurant menus<\/a> going all the way back to the <a href=\"http:\/\/menus.nypl.org\/menus\/decade\/1850s\">1850s<\/a>, I immediately rushed back to the oldest bill of fare I could find&#8212;this ragged Revere House menu from <a href=\"http:\/\/menus.nypl.org\/menus\/22229\">May 18, 1851<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/RevereHouseMay181851.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/RevereHouseMay181851-242x300.jpeg\" alt=\"RevereHouseMay181851\" width=\"242\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/RevereHouseMay181851-242x300.jpeg 242w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/RevereHouseMay181851-829x1024.jpeg 829w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/RevereHouseMay181851.jpeg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll have some of that corned beef with dandelions, plus some pigeons in cases on the side, please!
