{"id":6916,"date":"2012-07-13T11:19:29","date_gmt":"2012-07-13T15:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=6916"},"modified":"2012-07-13T11:19:29","modified_gmt":"2012-07-13T15:19:29","slug":"my-strangest-moment-so-far-at-comic-con-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2012\/07\/13\/my-strangest-moment-so-far-at-comic-con-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"My strangest moment so far at Comic-Con 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Considering I spent about 13 hours yesterday either in my hotel room or the hotel lobby prepping <a href=\"http:\/\/blastr.com\/system\/mt-search.fcgi?blog_id=29&#038;tag=Comic-Con&#038;limit=20\">Comic-Con stories for <em>Blastr<\/em><\/a>, it&#8217;s amazing anything strange was able to happen to me, since what kind of strange stuff could likely happen while I&#8217;m alone in my hotel room? (Please &#8230; don&#8217;t let your minds go there.)<\/p>\n<p>In any case, when I finally made it more than 100 yards from my laptop and over to the Random House party at <a href=\"http:\/\/bootleggersd.com\/\">Bootlegger<\/a>, I ended up in a conversation with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/3rdplacepress\/\">Vladimir Verano of Third Place Press<\/a>, who at one point looked at my badge and wondered why he knew my name. Then the proverbial light bulb went on over his head, and from his bag he pulled a galley of Sean Howe&#8217;s upcoming history of Marvel Comics in the &#8217;70s, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Marvel-Comics-The-Untold-Story\/dp\/0061992100\"><em>Marvel Comics: The Untold Story<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s coincidental enough, but the really strange thing? From the placement of his bookmark, I could see that he&#8217;d just, and I do mean <em>just<\/em>, gotten to the part where I came in.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/MarvelBookComicCon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/MarvelBookComicCon-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"MarvelBookComicCon\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6917\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/MarvelBookComicCon-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/MarvelBookComicCon-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/MarvelBookComicCon-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/MarvelBookComicCon.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At Vladimir&#8217;s request, I autographed the page where I first appeared, even though my desire to read Sean&#8217;s book  and find out what really happened back then when I was too busy living it to pay attention  is so great that I&#8217;d rather have created a distraction (Look&#8212;George R. R. Martin!) and then dashed from the bar with it under my arm.
