{"id":4512,"date":"2011-11-26T23:32:42","date_gmt":"2011-11-27T04:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=4512"},"modified":"2011-11-29T09:03:53","modified_gmt":"2011-11-29T14:03:53","slug":"signal-boost-keep-wilum-pugmire-in-your-thoughts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2011\/11\/26\/signal-boost-keep-wilum-pugmire-in-your-thoughts\/","title":{"rendered":"SIGNAL BOOST: Keep Wilum Pugmire in your thoughts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Davis, who runs the <a href=\"http:\/\/lovecraftzine.com\/\">Lovecraft eZine<\/a>, reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/lovecraftzine.com\/2011\/11\/26\/update-on-w-h-pugmire\/\">Wilum Pugmire was hospitalized<\/a> on Thanksgiving due to  heart problems, and has been given a distressing diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mike:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He told me that the prognosis keeps getting worse each day\u2014the doctors are, in his words, treating him like a terminal patient.  He said he honestly does not know if he\u2019s going to die or not.  However, he\u2019s in really great spirits.  He told me that if he does die, he has accomplished everything he set out to do.  He had the goal years ago of wanting to be known as a Lovecraftian writer, and he feels he has done that.  I replied that not only has he accomplished it, but that I agree with Will Hart\u2014he is the world\u2019s greatest living Lovecraftian writer.<\/p>\n<p>He has a relative bringing him a couple of Lovecraftian books tomorrow\u2014he says if he dies, he wants to do it with a Lovecraft book on his chest.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to being a wonderful writer, Wilum is also a heck of a lot of fun to hang around with, which we did a lot of during the 2008 World Horror Convention in Salt Lake City  (among other places):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Pugmire.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4513\" title=\"Pugmire\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Pugmire-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Pugmire-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Pugmire-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d been hoping to see him again in March when the WHC returned to Salt Lake City. And I&#8217;m still hoping. What do doctors know anyway?
