Welcome to the last of three Eating the Fantastic episodes recorded over the Memorial Day weekend at the 56th annual Balticon<\/a>, the first time that con was able to occur in the flesh in three years because of … well, you know why.<\/p>\n

You’ve already shared sushi with Wen Spencer<\/a>, followed by an Afghan dinner with Gwendolyn Clare<\/a>, and now it’s time for breakfast with David Gerrold<\/a>, who I first encountered when I was 12, because I saw the Star Trek<\/em> episode scripted by him, “The Trouble with Tribbles,” when it first aired in 1967. And they say 12 is the Golden Age of science fiction, right?<\/p>\n

But David is so much more than that famed episode. He\u2019s the author of more than 50 books, hundreds of articles and columns, and numerous hours of\u00a0television. His\u00a0TV credits include episodes from\u00a0Star Trek<\/em>\u00a0(such as the aforementioned \u201cThe Trouble With Tribbles\u201d and \u201cThe Cloud\u00a0Minders\u201d),\u00a0Star Trek Animated<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cMore Tribbles, More Troubles\u201d and \u201cBem\u201d), Babylon 5<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cBelievers\u201d),\u00a0Twilight Zone<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cA Day In Beaumont\u201d and \u201cA Saucer Of Loneliness\u201d),\u00a0Land Of The\u00a0Lost<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cCha-Ka,\u201d \u201cThe Sleestak God,\u201d \u201cHurricane,\u201d \u201cPossession,\u201d and \u201cCircle\u201d), Tales From The\u00a0Darkside<\/em> (\u201cLevitation\u201d and \u201cIf The Shoes Fit\u201d),\u00a0Logan\u2019s Run<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cMan Out Of Time\u201d), and others. <\/p>\n

His novels include\u00a0When HARLIE Was One<\/em> (which I believe was the first prose of his I read, at age 17),\u00a0The Man Who Folded Himself<\/em>,\u00a0The War Against The\u00a0Chtorr<\/em>\u00a0septology,\u00a0The Star Wolf<\/em>\u00a0trilogy,\u00a0and\u00a0The Dingilliad<\/em>\u00a0young adult trilogy, the\u00a0Trackers<\/em>\u00a0duology,\u00a0and many more. The autobiographical tale of his son\u2019s adoption,\u00a0“The Martian Child,” won the Hugo\u00a0and Nebula awards for Best Novelette of the Year and was the basis for the 2007 movie,\u00a0Martian Child<\/em>. \u00a0He was the 2022 winner of the Robert A. Heinlein Award, which was presented during Balticon.<\/p>\n
