{"id":27180,"date":"2020-12-05T20:02:43","date_gmt":"2020-12-06T01:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=27180"},"modified":"2020-12-05T20:06:11","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T01:06:11","slug":"for-your-consideration-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2020\/12\/05\/for-your-consideration-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"For your consideration: My 2020 collection plus 5 short stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Science Fiction &#038; Fantasy Writers of America recently announced the start of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfwa.org\/forum\/ballots\">nominations<\/a> period for the Nebula Awards, and at the same time, the recommendations process for the Horror Writers Association <a href=\"https:\/\/horror.org\/members-only\/documents\/rec-files\/2020\/recs-members-only2020.php\">is ongoing<\/a> &#8212; so now that all my 2020 publications have been released, it seems the right time to remind voting  members of the fiction I published this year. <\/p>\n<p>It was a very good year, with five short stories and a collection seeing print. Let me tell you a little something about each &#8212;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;Only Bruises Are Permanent&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MiscreationsCover.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MiscreationsCover-205x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-26698\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MiscreationsCover-205x300.jpeg 205w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MiscreationsCover.jpeg 460w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My 5,000-word non-supernatural horror short story \u201cOnly Bruises Are Permanent\u201d appeared in the anthology <em>Miscreations: Gods, Monstrosities &#038; Other Horrors<\/em>, edited by Doug Murano and Michael Bailey, and published in February by Written Backwards.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;Answered Prayers&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Dreamforge5Cover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Dreamforge5Cover-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-27066\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Dreamforge5Cover-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Dreamforge5Cover.jpg 334w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 6,125-word fantasy short story (fantasy of the bittersweet <em>Twilight Zone<\/em> sort, so don&#8217;t expect dragons) \u201cAnswered Prayers\u201d appeared in the fifth issue of <em>DreamForge<\/em> magazine, published in March.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfrevu.com\/php\/Review-id.php?id=19043\">SFRevu<\/a>  had this to say about my story:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA great story that every booklover will love and think about. But it\u2019s more than that. I have enjoyed Scott Edelman\u2019s stories for decades and this story is the perfect example why. I had a new collection out this year!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Things That Never Happened<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ThingsThatNeverHappenedCover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ThingsThatNeverHappenedCover-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-27062\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ThingsThatNeverHappenedCover-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ThingsThatNeverHappenedCover-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ThingsThatNeverHappenedCover-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ThingsThatNeverHappenedCover.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Things That Never Happened<\/em>, published by Cemetery Dance, caused a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/978-1-58767-774-8\">Publishers Weekly<\/a> reviewer to state: \u201cHis talent is undeniable.\u201d The collection includes 13 stories \u2014 four of which were previous Bram Stoker Award nominees.<\/p>\n<p>Over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/raforallhorror.blogspot.com\/2020\/09\/horrorforlibraries-giveaway-18-things.html\">Readers Advisory Guide to Horror<\/a>, Becky Spratford wrote of me and the collection: \u201cHis stories are ALWAYS inventive, original, and compelling.
