{"id":2518,"date":"2011-04-06T22:41:01","date_gmt":"2011-04-07T02:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=2518"},"modified":"2011-04-06T22:41:01","modified_gmt":"2011-04-07T02:41:01","slug":"two-house-of-mystery-stories-paul-levitz-passed-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2011\/04\/06\/two-house-of-mystery-stories-paul-levitz-passed-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Two House of Mystery stories Paul Levitz passed on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, I found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2011\/03\/15\/paul-levitz-rejects-me-again-and-again-and-again\/\">a bunch of rejections from Paul Levitz<\/a> for stories I&#8217;d submitted to DC&#8217;s <em>House of Mystery<\/em>, and then last week figured out exactly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2011\/03\/30\/solved-the-mystery-of-those-four-paul-levitz-rejects\/\">which stories he&#8217;d passed on<\/a>. And because I&#8217;d found two of those unused plots, and have no shame, I told you I&#8217;d let you see the synopses I&#8217;d submitted.<\/p>\n<p>If you can look past the typos and handwritten corrections of a pre-computer age, you&#8217;ll see the format  in which I was submitting ideas to DC&#8217;s mystery line (even though the plots failed to win over Paul). Sorry.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Until finding my plot, I had no idea what those legal problems could have been, but now that I see the story was to be set in the Museum of Broadcasting (today&#8217;s  Museum of Television and Radio) and would have featured the likenesses of Bruce Lee, Robert Stack, Robert Vaughn, Leonard Nimoy and other actors as their iconic characters, I kind of get his point.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/RejectedHouseofMysteryPlot3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2521\" title=\"RejectedHouseofMysteryPlot3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/RejectedHouseofMysteryPlot3-233x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/RejectedHouseofMysteryPlot3-233x300.jpg 233w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/RejectedHouseofMysteryPlot3-795x1024.jpg 795w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/RejectedHouseofMysteryPlot3.jpg 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>BTW, I became a member of the Museum of Broadcasting the year it opened, but a few years after I left New York, I let that membership lapse. Since I hardly ever made it back to Manhattan, it no longer made sense, though I have to admit I regretted losing that extremely low number on my membership card.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, when you read these long-ago words &#8230; please be kind.
