{"id":24236,"date":"2018-01-26T09:20:18","date_gmt":"2018-01-26T14:20:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=24236"},"modified":"2018-01-26T09:21:23","modified_gmt":"2018-01-26T14:21:23","slug":"sink-your-teeth-into-sicilian-with-barry-goldblatt-in-episode-58-of-eating-the-fantastic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2018\/01\/26\/sink-your-teeth-into-sicilian-with-barry-goldblatt-in-episode-58-of-eating-the-fantastic\/","title":{"rendered":"Sink your teeth into Sicilian with Barry Goldblatt in Episode 58 of Eating the Fantastic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final episode from my recent trip to New York&#8212;which also had me <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2017\/12\/15\/episode-55-irene-gallo\/\">lunching with Tor Art Director Irene Gallo<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2018\/01\/12\/episode-57-sheila-williams\/\">dining with <em>Asimov&#8217;s<\/em> magazine editor Sheila Williams<\/a>&#8212;took me back to the magical land of my birth&#8212;Brooklyn!<\/p>\n<p>At the suggestion of Barry Goldblatt, who founded the eponymous Barry Goldblatt Literary Agency in September 2000, we met at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellagioianyc.com\">Bella Gioia<\/a>, a Sicilian restaurant in  Park Slope. A wonderful choice! K. Rowling&#8217;s first U.S. book signing and how she changed children&#8217;s publishing forever, what everyone thinks they know about agents that&#8217;s totally wrong, the sorts of things he&#8217;s told authors to help take their work to the next level, why it sometimes makes sense for him to submit a less than perfect book, whether the YA market is doing a better job with diversity than adult
