{"id":23076,"date":"2017-03-03T09:18:36","date_gmt":"2017-03-03T14:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=23076"},"modified":"2017-06-08T09:51:16","modified_gmt":"2017-06-08T13:51:16","slug":"its-time-for-italian-in-greenwich-village-with-richard-bowes-in-episode-30-of-eating-the-fantastic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2017\/03\/03\/its-time-for-italian-in-greenwich-village-with-richard-bowes-in-episode-30-of-eating-the-fantastic\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s time for Italian in Greenwich Village with Richard Bowes in Episode 30 of Eating the Fantastic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final meal of my NYC trip&#8212;following  Ukrainian with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2017\/01\/20\/binge-on-blintzes-with-ellen-datlow-in-episode-27-of-my-eating-the-fantastic-podcast\/\">Ellen Datlow<\/a>, BBQ with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2017\/02\/03\/enjoy-burnt-ends-and-zombies-with-z-nations-craig-engler-in-episode-28-of-eating-the-fantastic\/\">Craig Engler<\/a>, and deli with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2017\/02\/17\/nosh-on-deli-with-barry-n-malzberg-in-episode-29-of-eating-the-fantastic\/\">Barry Malzberg<\/a>&#8212;took place  on MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caffereggio.com\">Caf\u00e9 Reggio<\/a>, which opened in 1927, and was apparently the first cafe in the U.S. to serve cappuccino. It&#8217;s also famous for  its on-screen appearances, so you&#8217;d recognize the place if you&#8217;ve ever seen such films as <em> The Godfather Part II<\/em>, <em>Shaft<\/em>, and <em>Serpico<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The venue was suggested by this episode&#8217;s guest, who happens to be a long-time resident of Greenwich Village&#8212;science fiction and fantasy writer Richard Bowes,  who&#8217;s a two-time winner of the World Fantasy Award, and who has also won the International Horror Guild Award as well as the Lambda Award.
