Or rather&#8212;art seems to have a way of finding me.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2008, I told you how<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2008\/09\/25\/love-at-the-library\/\"> I&#8217;d found an abandoned painting<\/a> leaning against one of the famous lions at the main branch of the New York Public Library, and later learned that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2008\/09\/26\/the-continuing-story-of-kael-cabral\/\">artist Kael Cabral<\/a> did that sort of street project a <em>lot<\/em>. It was a joyful thing to have occurred, and I never expected to make such a serendipitous discovery again.<\/p>\n<p>Then came the Kansas City Worldcon.<\/p>\n<p>As I waited a little over a week ago to be picked up by my Uber, I happened to look behind me and spot this small painting leaning against the outer glass wall by the airport exit. I was intrigued. Could I have  encountered a second example of free street art?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/PortableStreetArt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/PortableStreetArt-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"PortableStreetArt\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/PortableStreetArt-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/PortableStreetArt.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An examination  of the 5&#8243; x 7&#8243; piece showed&#8212;yes, I could!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Written on the back was the command &#8220;PLEASE TAKE ME!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, I was happy to oblige.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ScottEdelmanPortableStreetArt.jpg 2026w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That instruction was signed &#8220;Love, Mom,&#8221; and accompanied by a link to <a href=\"https:\/\/portablestreetart.com\">Portable Street Art<\/a>, a site I investigated once I arrived at the con hotel. <\/p>\n<p>Which is how I learned who was behind the moniker of Mom&#8212;an art therapist  named Sherri Jacobs, who began this project back in 2012 to, among other things, &#8220;infuse a whimsical element to a very organized  uncreative suburban landscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Sherri, for starting off my Worldon trip on a note of whimsy, while at the same time sharing a Heidegger quote which makes a great deal of sense to me.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad there are such people in this world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I seem to have a way of finding art.
