Artificial Intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky passed away<\/a> two days ago, which immediately brought back memories of the Science Forum in which he took part in the (gulp!) March 1993 issue of Science Fiction Age<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n

Those memories proved not to be entirely accurate, as I learned when I thought of digging out the tapes from that session to see if any of the audio would be of a quality worth posting here. <\/p>\n

But when I skimmed the transcript from that column, I soon discovered there were no tapes, because rather than assembling scientists in a restaurant as I usually did, this time “we linked together three top author-scientists … via a computer hookup.”<\/p>\n

Which probably meant we met in a private GEnie<\/a> chat room, but I hadn’t been sure whether most of the audience 23 years ago would have understood what that meant.<\/p>\n

In any case, to honor and remember Marvin Minsky, here’s what he, along with Geoffrey Landis and Arlan Andrews, had to say about Artificial Intelligence in the third issue of Science Fiction Age<\/em>.<\/p>\n
