{"id":20788,"date":"2015-10-23T21:04:37","date_gmt":"2015-10-24T01:04:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=20788"},"modified":"2015-10-23T21:08:52","modified_gmt":"2015-10-24T01:08:52","slug":"my-dinner-with-vincent-prices-daughter-and-dr-phibes-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2015\/10\/23\/my-dinner-with-vincent-prices-daughter-and-dr-phibes-too\/","title":{"rendered":"My dinner with Vincent Price&#8217;s daughter (and Dr. Phibes, too)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night, <a href=\"https:\/\/drafthouse.com\/winchester\/theater\/winchester\">my local Alamo Drafthouse<\/a> hosted a <a href=\"https:\/\/drafthouse.com\/winchester\/show\/the-abominable-dr.-phibes-feast-with-victoria-price\">Dr. Phibes Feast<\/a>, with an appearance by Vincent Price&#8217;s daughter Victoria and a five-course dinner prepared from recipes out of the  50th anniversary edition of Vincent and Mary Price&#8217;s cookbook <em>A Treasury of Great Recipes<\/em>. From the moment I learned  of the event, I knew I&#8217;d have to be there. After all, if you created a Venn diagram consisting of Food and the Fantastic, for me those two circles would surely come close to a complete overlap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AbominableDrPhibesFeastMenu.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AbominableDrPhibesFeastMenu-194x300.jpg\" alt=\"AbominableDrPhibesFeastMenu\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20789\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AbominableDrPhibesFeastMenu-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AbominableDrPhibesFeastMenu-663x1024.jpg 663w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AbominableDrPhibesFeastMenu.jpg 1651w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Check out the announced menu above, lacking only the alcoholic pairings accompanying each course, which as those who know me already know, I eschewed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Before the film, feasting, or Q&#038;A began, we were advised those who wished  could come forward to meet, greet, and get books signed by Victoria Price. Being 6&#8217;4&#8243;&#8212;the same height as was Vincent Price, BTW&#8212;I often end up in the back row of such clumpings so as not to block others. But since Gyurisin said some of us should kneel in front to make room for all in the picture, that&#8217;s just what I did,  makes me much easier to find. Victoria Price&#8217;s father (seen staring down at her below) believed in living life to its fullest. Two quotes of his shared with us were &#8220;If you&#8217;re always curious, you&#8217;ll never be bored&#8221; and &#8220;When you limit your interests, you limit your life.&#8221; He was never too busy for art or music.
