{"id":20660,"date":"2015-09-29T22:10:42","date_gmt":"2015-09-30T02:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=20660"},"modified":"2015-09-30T16:10:52","modified_gmt":"2015-09-30T20:10:52","slug":"nostalgia-reigned-at-the-2015-baltimore-comic-con","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2015\/09\/29\/nostalgia-reigned-at-the-2015-baltimore-comic-con\/","title":{"rendered":"Nostalgia reigned at the 2015 Baltimore Comic-Con"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each day of this past weekend was split between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimorebookfestival.com\">the Baltimore Book Festival<\/a> and  <a href=\"http:\/\/baltimorecomiccon.com\">Baltimore Comic-Con<\/a>, and while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2015\/09\/29\/my-bifurcated-weekend-at-the-baltimore-book-festival\/\">that first event<\/a> felt forward-thinking, the second was all about the past. Not only did I wander a dealers room in which I recognized every comic published or piece of original art created before 1980 or so, I also managed to catch up with seven people I&#8217;d worked beside during my time as a professional in the field.<\/p>\n<p>And some I hadn&#8217;t seen in more than thirty years!<\/p>\n<p>My nostalgia ride began with artist Ramona Fradon, whose work I&#8217;d loved as a child on titles such as <em>Metamorpho<\/em> and <em>Aquaman<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20663\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ScottEdelmanRamonaFradonBaltimoreComicCon.jpg 1486w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here we are posing with a copy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/comic-books\/house-of-mystery-273-october-1979\/\"><em>House of Mystery<\/em> #273<\/a>  opened to a story of mine which she drew in 1979! I guess that though <em>you<\/em> may never forget your first assignment, sometimes you wish others <em>did<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, I wandered by Walt Simonson&#8217;s table to find no Walt but plenty of fans hoping for autographs and sketches. So I walked off, figuring I wouldn&#8217;t get a chance to catch up up him. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/WaltSimonsonScottEdelmanBaltimoreComicCon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/WaltSimonsonScottEdelmanBaltimoreComicCon-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"WaltSimonsonScottEdelmanBaltimoreComicCon\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/WaltSimonsonScottEdelmanBaltimoreComicCon-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/WaltSimonsonScottEdelmanBaltimoreComicCon-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/WaltSimonsonScottEdelmanBaltimoreComicCon-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But then, there he was, coming toward the throng, so I stole a few minutes with him and tried to catch up on three decades.
