I&#8217;d paused on the way out to visit a lobby bathroom (as one does before a long drive) opposite the hotel restaurant. After I&#8217;d taken care of business, I noticed that on the other side of the glass wall separating  the hallway from  the restaurant was a large circular table of other attendees which included <a href=\"http:\/\/tempest.fluidartist.com\">K. Tempest Bradford<\/a>, who sat with her back toward me. <\/p>\n<p>I tapped on the glass while pointing at Tempest until someone else at the table gestured that she should turn around. Once  I&#8217;d caught her eye, I placed my hand against the glass, hoping she would raise her hand to mine. <\/p>\n<p>And she did!<\/p>\n<p>So as soon as our fingers were separated by only a pane of glass, I slowly intoned, with a  voice I tried to make sound  hoarse and weary &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/KTempestBradfordScottEdelmanReadercon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/KTempestBradfordScottEdelmanReadercon-279x300.jpg\" alt=\"KTempestBradfordScottEdelmanReadercon\" width=\"279\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/KTempestBradfordScottEdelmanReadercon-279x300.jpg 279w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/KTempestBradfordScottEdelmanReadercon.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 279px) 100vw, 279px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have been &#8230; &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And the table roared, for all recognized (1982 spoiler alert!) Spock&#8217;s dying words  to Kirk from <em>Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan<\/em>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/StarTrekKirkSpock.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/StarTrekKirkSpock-300x129.jpg\" alt=\"StarTrekKirkSpock\" width=\"300\" height=\"129\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20106\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/StarTrekKirkSpock-300x129.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/StarTrekKirkSpock.jpg 853w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the laughter died down, I completed the quote, and we laughed some more. I&#8217;m <em>so<\/em> happy the pose was captured and tweeted  by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sparkymonster\/status\/620378180604575744\">sparkymonster<\/a>. I adore that photo, not just due to the geekiness of it, but because I think both of our expressions were perfect.
