{"id":18285,"date":"2010-05-03T21:37:01","date_gmt":"2010-05-04T01:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=18285"},"modified":"2015-01-30T14:42:31","modified_gmt":"2015-01-30T19:42:31","slug":"dinner-with-the-duncans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2010\/05\/03\/dinner-with-the-duncans\/","title":{"rendered":"Dinner with the Duncans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We headed over to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berkeleysprings.com\/\">Berkeley Springs<\/a> last night,  halfway (sort of) between our West Virginia home and the Frostburg, Maryland stomping grounds of Sydney and Andy Duncan, and had dinner at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.panoramaatthepeak.com\/\">Panorama at the Peak<\/a> restaurant (which happens to be the best restaurant in town).  It felt good, as Andy put it, to for once see each other without wearing name tags.<\/p>\n<p>There was plenty of great food&#8212;<a href=\"http:\/\/yfrog.com\/6c8ahj\">braised lamb shank<\/a> for me, North Carolina crab cakes for Irene, West Virginia pan-fried trout  for the Duncans&#8212;and great conversation. <\/p>\n<p>We talked about blizzards (because whenever two or more gather, weather must be discussed, right?), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanowrimo.org\/\">NaNoWriMo<\/a>, whether or not I should finally attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iafa.org\/\">International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts<\/a>, Alzheimer&#8217;s, cluttering, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readercon.org\/\">Readercon<\/a>, our writing (of course!), Eddie Lawrence&#8217;s novelty record <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=79laBjDhyUs\">&#8220;The Old Philosopher&#8221;<\/a> (which I mangled badly trying to explain),  Sydney&#8217;s recent sale to <a href=\"http:\/\/alfredhitchcockpoems.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/table-of-contents-announced.html\">an anthology of Alfred Hitchcock poetry<\/a>, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the happy wanderers after we cleaned our plates and paid our bill.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DinnerwiththeDuncans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DinnerwiththeDuncans-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DinnerwiththeDuncans\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DinnerwiththeDuncans-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DinnerwiththeDuncans.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do we look sated in both mind and body?
