No. I was worried about losing power before I could complete the entry and get it posted!

Which is how LiveJournal and Twitter and Facebook make fools of us all …

But once the entry was up, and I was thinking more clearly, I thought—better get to bed and under the covers before the power goes. That way, I figured even if we went dark, we’d still be warm and toasty, and the electricity even might be back before we woke, and we’d be none the wiser.

Well … not quite.

When I got up in the middle of the night, I could tell by the lack of any clocks or night lights that we’d indeed lost power. And when morning came, we were still off the grid.

Luckily, we had decided, early Friday, to empty out the upstairs freezer and add everything to the basement freezer beneath a layer of ice so we wouldn’t lose anything unless a power outage went on for days. All we’d left upstairs was what we thought we’d eat through the weekend, and as we had breakfast this morning, we loaded it all into coolers and buried them out in the snow on the deck.

And then we donned several more layers as we watched the inside temperature drop from 61 to 57, and tried to be as active as possible so we could stay warm. With no Internet except via my iPhone, I only turned it on for occasional status updates, turning it off again to conserve battery power. We didn’t need to use our cell phones, because at least the landlines worked.

The snow stopped falling around 3:30 or so, leaving 30″ on the ground. You can tell by how deeply one of our benches is buried what the blizzard did to this neck of the woods.

We’d thought things had gotten as bad as they could, and but then, at around 4:00 p.m., our landlines went out as well …

So as not drag the story out, let me just cut to the happy ending, and say that both electricity and phone service came back at around 5:30 p.m., and that our good neighbors have already told us that they’ll be here with their snowblower to help clear our driveway as soon as the patch of road between us gets plowed. Knowing this neighborhood, though, that could be days from now …

But who cares? It’s not like I have a commute!

What’s important is that I’m much better off tonight than I thought this morning that I was going to be. I’ve had hot food, a hot shower, and will soon head for sleep in a warm bedroom. So life is good. I hope yours is good, too.

Last night, as I was prepping my previous entry here, the lights flickered half-a-dozen times, and to show how silly social networking makes us, was I worrying about losing power?
