Paul Levitz has left the building.  Why, I read it only yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>At least &#8230;  it <i>seems<\/i> like yesterday &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Actually, though, he announced his retirement in the 100th issue of his fanzine, <i>The Comic Reader<\/i>.  <i>The Comic Reader<\/i> started out  called <i>On the Drawing Board<\/i>, which, at the time I started subscribing as soon as I read a mention of it in a DC comic, was being edited by Mark Hanerfeld.  But Paul took over in October 1971, and by this issue two years later, dated August-September 1973, he was ready to call it a day.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the cover of his farewell issue:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100-193x300.jpg\" alt=\"TheComicReader100\" width=\"193\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-16863\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100-193x300.jpg 193w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100.jpg 395w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 193px) 100vw, 193px\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s the editorial in which Paul announced that due to the fact that  his schooling at the New York University College of Business and Public Administration took up two days a week and that he had a chance to work at DC Comics three days a week, he was passing on the reins of the fanzine to others.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100Interior.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100Interior-300x235.jpg\" alt=\"TheComicReader100Interior\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-16864\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100Interior-300x235.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/TheComicReader100Interior.jpg 777w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPaul also mentions in passing that &#8220;a comic convention can now attract over six and a half <i>thousand<\/i> people.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>Wow!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I hope it all worked out for Paul.
