I’ve shared photos<\/a> of a much younger<\/a>, costumed me<\/a> before, but considering the recent brouhaha stirred up by Pat Broderick’s denunciation<\/a> of cosplayers, which was followed by other comics pros, such as Marv Wolfman<\/a>, supporting cosplay and offering their own costumed pics, I figured it was time to give you another glimpse of my broadsword and my bare chest.<\/p>\n

Sam Maronie, who runs the always entertaining site Sam Maronie\u2019s Entertainment Funhouse<\/a>, took a ton of con pics in the old timey days, which is surprising, because I’d’ve thought my mug would have broken his camera. In any event, he recently sent along some images of me as a generic barbarian from the 1974 Creation Convention at New York’s Hotel Commodore.<\/p>\n

The headband, the sheepskin rug, the bunny … those are long gone. But I still own that broadsword<\/a>!<\/p>\n

On the left, dressed (I think) like Fritz Leiber’s Gray Mouser, is Dave Simons, one of the first friends I made when I started attending convention at age 15. And in the middle is …<\/p>\n

… I have no idea. Do you? He doesn’t look like anyone in comics I remember ever meeting. My only thought is that it might have been Dave’s Dad, but that’s just a wild guess. If you have a clue, let me know.<\/p>\n
