{"id":15951,"date":"2008-11-24T23:04:28","date_gmt":"2008-11-25T04:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=15951"},"modified":"2014-10-05T19:47:19","modified_gmt":"2014-10-05T23:47:19","slug":"stan-the-man-in-1967","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2008\/11\/24\/stan-the-man-in-1967\/","title":{"rendered":"Stan &#8220;the Man&#8221; in 1967"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you who&#8217;ve grown tired of seeing endless photos of the Stan Lee of 2008 due to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2008\/11\/17\/stan-lee-awarded-2008-national-medal-of-the-arts\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Medal of the Arts he received  from President Bush at the White House last Monday<\/a>, here he is 41 years ago at the 1967 New York Comic Convention.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s Big Name Fan turned pro Dave Kaler on the  right. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/StanLeeDaveKaler1967.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/StanLeeDaveKaler1967-295x300.jpg\" alt=\"StanLeeDaveKaler1967\" width=\"295\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15952\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/StanLeeDaveKaler1967-295x300.jpg 295w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/StanLeeDaveKaler1967.jpg 648w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 295px) 100vw, 295px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And before you ask, no&#151;I wasn&#8217;t there to take this picture, though I wish I had been.  I was only 12, and my first comic-book convention was still three years away.  (As for Stan, I guess the goatee was still in <i>his<\/i> future.)<\/p>\n<p>Though I&#8217;ve had the photo in a folder for decades, you&#8217;ll have to thank either Andy or Pat Yanchus for its existence.
