Oxford University researchers have compiled a list of what they consider to be the Top 10 Most Irritating Phrases<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They are:<\/p>\n

1. At the end of the day
\n2. Fairly unique
\n3. I personally
\n4. At this moment in time
\n5. With all due respect
\n6. Absolutely
\n7. It’s a nightmare
\n8. Shouldn’t of
\n9. 24\/7
\n10. It’s not rocket science<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Readers of the Daily Telegraph<\/i> chose their own Top 10 list<\/a>:<\/p>\n

1. Literally
\n2. A safe pair of hands
\n3. I’m gutted
\n4. Basically
\n5. Going forward
\n6. Upcoming
\n7. Shouldn’t of
\n8. Up until
\n9. Neither here not there
\n10. On a daily basis<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The phrase from these lists which I’ve always found the most annoying? The misuse of the word “literally.”<\/p>\n

The phrase that bothers me the most which seems curiously absent from the list? The use of “I could care less” when “I couldn’t care less” is meant.<\/p>\n

The one phrase from these two lists that’s new to me? “I’m gutted.” But since a Google search reveals it to be primarily used by UK and Australian sports stars, I guess I can be forgiven.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
