{"id":15177,"date":"2008-11-08T13:53:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-08T18:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=15177"},"modified":"2014-06-27T11:38:34","modified_gmt":"2014-06-27T15:38:34","slug":"harlans-in-my-pants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2008\/11\/08\/harlans-in-my-pants\/","title":{"rendered":"Harlan&#8217;s in my pants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another reason that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2008\/11\/04\/dreaming-of-the-perfect-potato\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harlan Ellison entered my dream earlier this week<\/a> may have been because he entered my pants almost a decade ago, something which I had forgotten until Julia Duncan showed me this picture at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2008\/11\/02\/another-dream-plus-halloween\/\">last weekend&#8217;s Halloween party<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/HarlanEllisonScottEdelmanPants.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/HarlanEllisonScottEdelmanPants-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"HarlanEllisonScottEdelmanPants\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/HarlanEllisonScottEdelmanPants-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/HarlanEllisonScottEdelmanPants-751x1024.jpg 751w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/HarlanEllisonScottEdelmanPants.jpg 1761w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t even known that this picture existed, and had forgotten about my antics back at Readercon 11, but now that she&#8217;s shared a scan of the photo with me, I&#8217;m sharing it with you. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Harlan was the Guest of Honor at Readercon 11 back in 1999, and as a result, the freebie table there contained a stack of  mousepads  which had been created in support of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/I_Have_No_Mouth,_and_I_Must_Scream_(computer_game)\" target=\"_blank\"><i>I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream<\/i><\/a>, the videogame adaptation of one of his most famous stories.  The mousepad featured his face, and in the presence of  such an artifact, I couldn&#8217;t resist (because I have no shame) shoving one of them down my pants and flashing my friends while Harlan peered out.<\/p>\n<p>Faced with such a temptation, you&#8217;d have done the same &#8230; wouldn&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another reason that Harlan Ellison entered my dream earlier this week may have been because he entered my pants almost a decade ago, something which I had forgotten until Julia Duncan showed me this picture at last weekend&#8217;s Halloween party.
