The volume contains many science fiction  classics, including &#8220;Judgment Day,&#8221; an anti-racism allegory that ended up being  the last story in EC&#8217;s last comic book, plus many adaptations of Earl and Otto Binder&#8217;s Adam Link robot stories. <\/p>\n<p>Which seems like a perfect reason to post yet another of the drawings I got when I was an annoying kid with a sketchpad who wandered conventions pestering artists. Here&#8217;s one Orlando did for me of Adam Link, years before he became <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2012\/01\/27\/when-i-was-a-sweathog-robert-hegyes-1951-2012\/\">my editor<\/a> on such comics as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/comic-books\/welcome-back-kotter-9-january-1978\/\"><em>Welcome Back, Kotter<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/JoeOrlandoAdamLink.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/JoeOrlandoAdamLink-227x300.jpg\" alt=\"JoeOrlandoAdamLink\" width=\"227\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/JoeOrlandoAdamLink-227x300.jpg 227w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/JoeOrlandoAdamLink-776x1024.jpg 776w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/JoeOrlandoAdamLink.jpg 1552w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure exactly when he drew this for me, but my best guess is that it was at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2009\/02\/27\/where-were-you-in-72\/\">1972 EC Fan Addict convention<\/a>, where I also got sketches from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2010\/03\/21\/happy-79th-birthday-al-williamson\/\">Al Williamson<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2008\/08\/05\/another-sketch-for-a-creepy-kid\/\">George Evans<\/a>, and many others.<\/p>\n<p>It was a much different world back then, one in which artists would happily (well &#8230; willingly, anyway) draw for fans for free.
