{"id":14221,"date":"2008-10-17T08:53:22","date_gmt":"2008-10-17T12:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=14221"},"modified":"2014-03-19T17:07:21","modified_gmt":"2014-03-19T21:07:21","slug":"robert-silverbergs-ribs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2008\/10\/17\/robert-silverbergs-ribs\/","title":{"rendered":"Robert Silverberg&#8217;s ribs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a small snippet of a larger dream, I&#8217;m sitting across from Robert Silverberg at a long table while I open my mail, which for at least 15 years&#151;ever since I started editing science-fiction magazines&#151;has consisted not just of envelopes, but of many packages filled with books, DVDs, toys, etc.  <\/p>\n<p>As I tear through the parcels and leave the detritus at my feet, I come across a small box with a return address of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wesribhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wes&#8217; Rib House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/RobertSilverbergDream.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/RobertSilverbergDream.jpg\" alt=\"RobertSilverbergDream\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14222\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ah,&#8221; I say in satisfaction, for this what I&#8217;d been waiting for.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh?&#8221; says Bob.  I  rip open the box and show Bob the package of rib rub I&#8217;d ordered.  <\/p>\n<p>Bob, seeing the name on the spices, comments that he recognizes it as a restaurant in Chicago, but when I correct him to say that Wes&#8217; is in Rhode Island, he continues to insist that the place is in Chicago.
