{"id":13885,"date":"2014-02-28T10:46:29","date_gmt":"2014-02-28T15:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=13885"},"modified":"2014-02-28T10:46:29","modified_gmt":"2014-02-28T15:46:29","slug":"caught-in-a-storm-at-easter-islands-la-taverne-du-pecheur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/28\/caught-in-a-storm-at-easter-islands-la-taverne-du-pecheur\/","title":{"rendered":"Caught in a storm at Easter Island&#8217;s La Taverne du Pecheur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We initially avoided the Easter Island restaurant La Taverne du Pecheur because it seemed too &#8230; well &#8230; obvious.<\/p>\n<p>It was in such a perfect spot&#8212;right by Caleta Hanga Roa, where the dive shops sent out their boats for scuba and snorkeling&#8212;that we figured they&#8217;d get a ton of walk-in traffic without a need to serve good food, and so would only have location on their side.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, we preferred to find restaurants a little off the beaten track. (As if Easter Island wasn&#8217;t off the beaten track enough!) But then the Belgian family we befriended at <a href=\"http:\/\/chezmariagoretti.com\">Chez Maria Goretti<\/a> told us we <em>must<\/em> go &#8230; so we went.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/LaTaverneEasterIsland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/LaTaverneEasterIsland-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"LaTaverneEasterIsland\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/LaTaverneEasterIsland-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/LaTaverneEasterIsland-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/LaTaverneEasterIsland-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We sat on a second story patio outside beneath an umbrella (that may even be our table right above the restaurant&#8217;s sign), but soon the heavens opened, and the umbrella wasn&#8217;t enough to protect us. Which I&#8217;d have been happier with had they not come to the table either lukewarm or cool. She says it still had a good flavor, though.<\/p>\n<p>I was ultimately glad that our hotel neighbors had nudged us to check the place out. However, though La Taverne du Pecheur offered a beautiful view and friendly service (and a <em>huge<\/em> menu, which also included thick steaks and foie gras), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2014\/02\/27\/my-first-taste-of-easter-island-poi-at-tataku-vave\/\">Tataku Vave<\/a> was the clear winner when it came to Easter island cuisine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We initially avoided the Easter Island restaurant La Taverne du Pecheur because it seemed too &#8230; well &#8230; obvious.
