At the top of the list? Tataku Vave, which she said served the best ceviches and fresh fish.<\/p>\n<p>Then, once on Easter Island, I asked  our local guide <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eisp.org\/category\/about\/staff\/arevalo-pakarati\/\">Cristin Arvalo Pakarati<\/a> which restaurant he thought served the best fish. His answer, without any prompting from me? Tataku Vave.<\/p>\n<p>And so, Monday night, after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2014\/02\/17\/digging-the-quarry-at-ranu-raraku\/\">our first day&#8217;s touring<\/a>, Tataku Vave it was!<\/p>\n<p>We timed our meal to end at the right time for us to amble over to that night&#8217;s installment of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2014\/02\/25\/we-felt-like-family-at-easter-islands-tapati-festival\/\">Tapati festival<\/a>, set to begin at 9:45, which meant that as we ate out on the patio we were once more treated to a terrific sunset.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveSunset.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveSunset-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"TatakuVaveSunset\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveSunset-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveSunset-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveSunset-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After all the raves the ceviche had received, there was no way I could <em>not<\/em> order it, and it indeed turned out to be the best I had while on Easter Island.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveCeviche.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveCeviche-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"TatakuVaveCeviche\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13838\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveCeviche-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveCeviche-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/TatakuVaveCeviche-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Irene chose camaron en mantequilla for her appetizer. Turns out it&#8217;s a traditional Rapa Nui dish made with taro and (in this case) guava. It had a dense, rubbery texture that was smooth and consistent throughout, and a cool and fruity flavor. Definitely worth trying at least once.<\/p>\n<p>Tataku Vave is sort of  at the edge of Hanga Roa, and it was unlikely that we would have happened upon it on our own while walking the town&#8217;s streets, so I was very glad to have had multiple recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>And now you have mine as well. We&#8217;d definitely return if we ever make it back to Easter Island.
