{"id":12315,"date":"2007-12-07T10:08:48","date_gmt":"2007-12-07T15:08:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=12315"},"modified":"2014-01-08T17:35:04","modified_gmt":"2014-01-08T22:35:04","slug":"banzai-said-morrie-kuramoto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2007\/12\/07\/banzai-said-morrie-kuramoto\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Banzai!&#8221; said Morrie Kuramoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps I was a little quick  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/2007\/12\/06\/the-dwarf-and-the-dominatrix\/\">yesterday<\/a> to discount the characters I&#8217;ve worked with over the years at my various staff jobs in publishing, because Pearl Harbor Day brings back memories of Morrie Kuramoto, who I worked with many years ago at Marvel Comics when I was an editorial assistant  and he toiled in the production department.<\/p>\n<p>Morrie had worked at the company for so many years that he was jokingly referred to as &#8220;The Ancient One.&#8221; On Pearl Harbor Day, he would wear a WWII leather pilot&#8217;s cap while sitting at his drawing board, and toss paper airplanes at his coworkers and anyone else who happened to pass by.
