{"id":12266,"date":"2007-11-23T10:12:38","date_gmt":"2007-11-23T15:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=12266"},"modified":"2014-01-07T21:37:42","modified_gmt":"2014-01-08T02:37:42","slug":"that-sinking-feeling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2007\/11\/23\/that-sinking-feeling\/","title":{"rendered":"That sinking feeling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The news this morning brings word of a cruise ship sinking in Antarctic waters, and since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/antarctica2005.html\" target=\"_blank\">Irene and I know what it feels like to be aboard  a cruise ship in Antarctic waters<\/a>, the thought of passengers hearing midnight cries of &#8220;Abandon ship!&#8221; for real instead of as a drill strikes a little too close.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/world\/AP-Britain-Ship-Sinking.html?hp\" target=\"_blank\">the story in the <i>New York Times<\/i><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) &#8212; More than 150 passengers and crew took to lifeboats in Antarctic waters on Friday after their cruise ship hit an object and began taking on water through a hole in the hull, Britain&#8217;s coast guard said. No injuries were reported.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad to see that Lindblad&#8217;s <i>M.S.
