{"id":10310,"date":"2013-05-21T08:41:39","date_gmt":"2013-05-21T12:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/?p=10310"},"modified":"2013-05-21T08:41:39","modified_gmt":"2013-05-21T12:41:39","slug":"intriguing-1966-dc-comics-house-ad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/2013\/05\/21\/intriguing-1966-dc-comics-house-ad\/","title":{"rendered":"Intriguing 1966 DC Comics house ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I was over at my sister-in-law&#8217;s house Sunday night, I happened to notice a stack of old comics on the coffee table and picked up this one\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/issue\/19997\/cover\/4\/\"><em>Detective Comics<\/em> #350<\/a> (April 1966)\u2014because who could resist a Batman drawn by Joe Kubert or those <a href=\"http:\/\/goodcomics.comicbookresources.com\/2007\/05\/03\/365-reasons-to-love-comics-123\/\">Go-Go Checks<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DetectiveComics350April1966.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10313\" alt=\"DetectiveComics350April1966\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DetectiveComics350April1966-201x300.jpg\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DetectiveComics350April1966-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DetectiveComics350April1966.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The house ads in the issue were as much fun as the stories (which is often the case), and I was particularly intrigued by this one, in which DC claimed it sold &#8220;<strong>twice as many<\/strong> comics as any other competitor&#8221; and &#8220;almost as many as all other comics <strong>combined<\/strong>.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DCComicsHouseAd1966.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10311\" alt=\"DCComicsHouseAd1966\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DCComicsHouseAd1966-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DCComicsHouseAd1966-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottedelman.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DCComicsHouseAd1966-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Which had me thinking\u2014how long has it been since DC could claim it was on top? Was it Spider-Man related? X-Men related?
