I&#8217;d like to think it&#8217;s because the editor thought I was funny guy, but it&#8217;s more likely because I&#8217;d attended high school in Brooklyn and I seemed like just another sweathog.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, these stories were some of the easiest I&#8217;d ever written. I was a big fan of the show at the time, and had internalized the voices of the characters to such an extent that all I had to do was put them in a situation and they&#8217;re react just like their TV selves.<\/p>\n<p>This issue was the first comic book story I had published with a company other than Marvel. Once I&#8217;d resigned from my staff position there, I was then free to freelance for what for years had been the competition, and Kotter became my DC debut.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What qualified me to write a comic book about the Welcome Back, Kotter gang?
