Having “Dreaming of the New World to Come” chosen to be part of Grimoire<\/em> helped make my 2025 Seattle Worldcon even more delightful than such gatherings usually are. That’s because all contributors to the volume were required to be attendees that year, which allowed buyers to go on a scavenger hunt through the con as they attempted to obtain the signatures of every one of us on the Table of Contents.<\/p>\n

Which means that when I picked up my contributors copy early on in the dealers room at the Grim Oaks Press table, there was such a stream of readers arriving to pick up theirs as well, I plopped down there and autographed continuously for more than 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

And later on, when I arrived for my official autographing session, my line wound far off out of sight.<\/p>\n

Plus people came up to me after panels and in the hallways to get my autograph on their copies.<\/p>\n

Such attention was flattering. And yes, I’m well aware those who asked me to deface their books weren’t doing so because they were particularly in love with me or my octopus story. (That’s right — “Dreaming of the New World to Come” is told from the point of view of an octopus.) It’s because they were completists who simply needed my scrawl to join the signatures of far better writers than me, such as Mary Robinette Kowal, Martha Wells, Fonda Lee, Seanan McGuire, Fran Wilde, and others. But it was fun nonetheless.<\/p>\n

If you’d like a copy, it’s too late to obtain one of the hardcovers, because they were created solely to be an artifact for those who attended the Seattle Worldcon. But ebooks are still available.<\/a><\/p>\n
