But when editor Jennifer Brozek put out a call for the anthology <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravenoak.net\/my-books\/99-fleeting-fantasies\/\">99 Fleeting Fantasies<\/a>,  asking for stories no longer than 1,000 words, I realized I had an idea on hand which would work perfectly with so few words, and turned in the bittersweet &#8220;The Song That Never Ends&#8221; at exactly 999 words.<\/p>\n<p>I could have added one more to hit the magic number exactly, but it seemed right the way it was.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I rarely write short.
