DC Wants YOU to Write Science-Fiction Comics

Posted by: Scott    Tags:  comics, DC Comics    Posted date:  January 14, 2010  |  No comment

DC Comics would like you to pitch stories for their new “EC-type” book Strange Adventures of Science Fiction.

And by you, I mean me.

And by me, I mean me in 1979.

I received the letter below from editors Jack C. Harris and Joe Orlando almost 31 years ago to the day. January 9, 1979, in fact. Just in case the date alone doesn’t make you realize how long ago that was, perhaps their statement that “We also want the book to sell like tickets to King Tut” will!

So—whatever happened to Strange Adventures of Science Fiction? Unless I’m very much mistaken, it never saw print—at least, not under that title.

I believe the book was renamed Time Warp (if I’m wrong, you’ll let me know, won’t you?), a comic that had a story of mine (“The Most Special of Effects”) in its fourth issue. Time Warp turned out not to be quite the EC clone this letter indicated it was meant to be, but it was a fun book nonetheless.

I wish there were more anthology comics around these days. If there were, I might still be writing for them.
