My recent dreams starred Josh Holloway, David Letterman, Ian McKellen and more

My dreams have been sparse the past few months—not the having of them, but the remembering of them—which meant that January and February were light compared to what I usually can save from my subconscious. But I still like gathering together what I’d previously shared on Twitter to see whether any theme arises.

So far this year, I’ve dreamt of Josh Holloway, David Letterman, David Hyde Pierce, Ian McKellen and more …

February 2016

I dreamt that while I was on a panel at @Readercon, in came my wife with a Colt .45, which she said she’d just used to kill a mouse. Feb 29

I dreamt I visited @dreamoforgonon, and when we laughed until we cried, he pulled out a box of tiny kittens with which we dabbed our tears. Feb 29

I dreamt I leapt up with two friends (don’t remember who) and spontaneously danced that famous Bande à part scene. https://youtu.be/u1MKUJN7vUk Feb 28

I dreamt I was in the Old West, chatting with a bad guy, and realized I forgotten to wear my pistol. And wondered how I’d get out of this. vFeb 26

I dreamt I drove to @StokerCon2016, and once I got there, I found I’d forgotten my luggage, and had only the clothes on my back. Oh, well! Feb 21

I dreamt I looked outside to see ducks nesting with their baby ducks. In a lake. Which we don’t have IRL. A fact which didn’t disturb me. Feb 8

I dreamt I was teaching a fiction writing course, leading an exercise which involved imagining the lives of characters in classic paintings. Feb 7

I dreamt that I visited DC Comics and found Bill Gaines (long dead IRL) holding court. I tried to take a pic, but my tech failed, of course. Feb 4

I dreamt I was at David Hartwell’s house editing a manuscript while he worked outside in his garden. But he eventually came in and chatted. Feb 2

I have no idea what dream was supposed to be brought to mind by this middle-of-the-night note: NAT KING COLE SHOWS UP. All memories — gone! Feb 1

January 2016

I’m afraid I’ve lost one of my dreams because I can no longer recall the meaning of this scribbled middle-of-the-night note: DISNEY RACING Jan 30

I dreamed I wandered NY taking pics of fading ads from a century ago which had been painted on the sides of buildings. And my camera worked! Jan 30

I dreamt my brother, father and I strummed ukes and sang songs to honor my mother. (Only IRL, neither plays, and Dad is long dead himself.) Jan 29

I dreamt I was hanging out in a backwoods BBQ joint talking meat with the pitmaster when SF Age ad salesguy walked in. We were both stunned. Jan 28

I dreamt I was a couple abducted and locked away by a kidnapper, sometimes in his head, sometimes in hers, struggling to escape. And we did! Jan 27

I dreamt I didn’t have time to land my plane, so I instead climbed inside a missile which plunged into the ocean and then raced ashore. Jan 21

I dreamt Josh Holloway and I were smelting all the metal we could find in a furnace so we could build a machine which would save the world. Jan 21

I dreamt I was transported to an alternate universe almost exactly like ours, except all donuts were triangles instead of circles. Madness! Jan 19

I dreamt I was interviewing David Letterman when his phone rang — it was my mother, who’d tracked me down, to ask me … I don’t remember. Jan 17

I dreamt I was a mad scientist’s assistant, and would disassociate from the horrid acts I was forced to do by singing show tunes in my head. Jan 17

I dreamt I was having dinner at @RosesLuxury. I can’t remember the circumstances or company, but only that it was a GOOD dream. Yum! Jan 17

I dreamt that when I was attacked by a couple of guys with shotguns, I was rescued by a little girl who had a pistol hidden in her jacket. Jan 16

I dreamt we forgot we’d invited all we knew to a party about to begin, so rushed around getting ready. Then we remembered it was NEXT week. Jan 16

I dreamt my son accidentally left an announcement I was leaving on my desk in the Marvel Bullpen before I’d actually given notice. Oooops! Jan 14

I dreamt I was pulling a coffin containing the body of a soldier to the U.S. Capitol to help out a living soldier about to give a speech. Jan 14

I dreamt Gil Kane had done some sketches of Rex Harrison, and I was on my way to visit the actor so I could snap photos of him holding them. Jan 14

A dream note scribbled in the middle of the night which now is meaningless to me: “Speaker complain about fee — luckily, I underpaid, too.” Jan 13

I dreamt I rented a car to drive from the northernmost spot in North America to the southernmost in South America. But woke before the trip! Jan 13

I dreamt I was about to skydive, then remembered I really should get the instructor to sign the 1976 logbook from when I last did that. Jan 12

I dreamt I shared a cab with my parents, but they got out, and I continued on ahead, and would see them later. Much too spot-on considering. Jan 12

I dreamt I hit a horse with my car, then realized it was a guy DRESSED like a horse. I ran to a fire department for help — they saved him. Jan 11

I dreamt F&SF owner David Hyde Pierce chased me in a park and served me with a restraining order because I didn’t like a story he published. Jan 11

I dreamt I was at a Nina Kiriki Hoffman reading, and after an audience member heckled, threw a pencil at her, and ran, I chased him down. Jan 10

I dreamt I was Derek Jacobi, acting with Ian McKellen, and backstage before a performance, he attacked me with a vacuum cleaner wand. Ouch! Jan 10

I dreamt @Marvel hired me back to be the new Editor-in-Chief, and was surprised to see they now let live chickens wander the Bullpen. Jan 8
