Looking back at the Mighty Marvel Fun Books

My comics career from the ’70s through the early ’80s may have been brief, but it was varied. Which means that as Back Issue magazine has peered into the past, I’ve ended up getting mentioned multiple times—for my creation of the Scarecrow, for my contribution to Madame Xanadu, and also for many of my back-up stories.

The December 2004 issue, which just popped up digitally via email, covers a couple of assignments I never figured anyone would care enough about to write up—my Mighty Marvel Fun Books.

I was only a small part of an ongoing book and magazine series done primarily by Owen McCarron, but that didn’t make the two volumes I was privileged to create any less fun.

If you’d like to know more about that project, you can buy a copy of the issue here.

As a puzzle fiend and comic book fan, I loved those books! It’s unfortunate Owen McCarron is no longer with us. When it comes to projects like this, you don’t expect entertainment as well as accuracy (that’s a lot of Marvel trivia covered in dem puzzles) but these were uniformly great. And I still have a few issues of Marvel Fun & Games to track down…
