Would you like to see baby foxes trying to climb trees? Of course you would!

About two weeks ago, we discovered that three baby foxes had been born and were living under our shed, and since then, we’ve spotted them at least once each day. (Don’t worry, they haven’t been abandoned—we see their Mom, too, from time to time.)

Yesterday, for example, we caught two of them napping, which is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Why were they zonked out like that? What was it that had exhausted them so?

Well, did you know that foxes climbed trees? I had no idea. But it turns out they do! And before they get the hang of doing it successfully, there’s an awful lot of only trying to climb trees … and an awful lot of falling down!

Even with all of today’s Internet woes (a story for another time), yesterday more than made up for it.

Yep. Gray foxes can climb, and these little cuties are definitely gray foxes. There used to be a family of gray foxes in our neighborhood who would climb the oak tree next to our neighbor’s house at night, and then use it to get onto her roof, where they’d cavort merrily.
