It’s better to give than to receive … so give!

Today’s mail brought a new catalog from auction house Profiles in History. Its 204 pages contain more than 500 items of memorabilia to be sold on December 11, including the guitar strap worn by Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, Sally Field’s habit from The Flying Nun, an Egyptian chariot from The Ten Commandments, James Dean’s vest from Giant, Marlon Brando’s Col. Kurtz coat from Apocalypse Now, one of Mark Hamill’s lightsabers from Star Wars, Orson Welles’ red Rochester jacket from Jane Eyre, and on and on and on.

Amazing artifacts all, but the two I’m jonesing for are still to come. If you’re having difficulty deciding what to get me now that the holidays are just around the corner, what follows is my wish list.

First up, the original 82-inch diameter flying saucer from Forbidden Planet. The spaceship was also used in six different episodes of The Twilight Zone. This model of United Planets Cruiser C-57D was once thought to have been lost forever, but was recently rediscovered. It’s estimated that it will go for between $80-000-$120,000. I have the perfect place for it, so start your bidding now!

Next comes the 9½ ft. tall animatronic Joe from the 1998 version of Mighty Joe Young. This was used for the scenes in which Charlize Theron and Bill Paxton needed to be seen next to a full-sized ape. There’s no mention of the object’s weight, but in addition to being 9½ ft. tall, the prop is also 8 feet wide and 15 feet long. But we have high ceilings, so I know just where it will go!

The auction estimate on this item is also $80-000-$120,000, but I know that you love me, so price is no object, right?

Who will start the bidding?
