Readers expect that they’re going to get something special in the 50th issue of a comic, and even though I only started writing Captain Marvel with issue #49, I knew I had to deliver that something.
Having the Avengers guest star would probably have been big enough, but I decided to do something bigger—I changed the paradigm by unlinking Rick Jones and Captain Marvel, who for many years had been unable to appear in this dimension at the same time. I used the Super-Adaptoid to do it, in a twist that still seems satisfying to me.
