World Fantasy Convention 2003

Because the World Fantasy Convention was in the District of Columbia in 2003, there are far fewer photos from the annual event than I usually snap. Since I had to be in shape to drive home, I couldn't party into the wee hours of the morning, which (as every writer knows) is when all the truly fun stuff happens.

But there are a few interesting shots nonetheless ...

Nicholas Kaufmann lives out
his own personal world fantasy
in the hotel bar on Halloween

Julia Duncan, editor of
The Write Course Web site,
sees me coming and
reaches for her pepper spray

Professional wrestler
Lance Storm came to the con to meet his favorite writers
and promote his book club

Andy Duncan entertains
an undead audience
with a zombie story

After his reading,
Andy's adoring fans
get him to sign
books and blank checks

Lou Anders had plenty
to brag about, unveiling
the revitalized
Argosy magazine

Rob Stouffer (in a Mets cap)
and Rebecca Maines (in a Cubs t-shirt)
prove that opposites attract

Christopher McKitterick and
Kij Johnson look forward
to a very good year

Journalist
Letitia Wells

John Kessel reads a story,
even though he hasn't
settled on a title yet

John Kessel's rowdy audience,
photographed in a rare moment
of good behavior

At the Tor Party,
F. Paul Wilson seems
slightly ashamed that
only Steve Spruill
received the black-tie memo

Nattily garbed David Hartwell
seems unimpressed by
Steve Spruill's tuxedo

F. Paul Wilson
may seem
like a nice guy—

—but this is what
he really thinks of me!
