When editor Stephen Jones asked for an essay about a ghostly encounter I may have had, I instead delivered a piece about how anyone else leading my charmed life would sure believe a guardian angel must be watching over him … so why didn’t I?
What I wrote first appeared in Czech in 1998 under the title “Někdo tam nahoře mě má — asi… snad …. (možná ) — rád” and only later in English as “Somebody Up There, Maybe, Perhaps, Likes Me. (I Think.)” in my first collection, These Words Are Haunted.
